I can't believe I actually got my gifts finished this year for Christmas. SERIOUSLY. I'm sure I've said that every year, but I was actually finishing the gift for my fiance Christmas morning... while everyone else opened presents. I really enjoyed seeing everyone's reactions without distraction, though! It was a wonderful Christmas. =) I broke down and bought gifts for my mom and dad (slight fail =/), but everyone else's were made. Here's the breakdown:
1 lace knit scarf in Vanna's Choice blue (GORGEOUS and I made it a button-front scarf, a style I adore)
1 pink knit slouchy hat (in a pattern I put together of various elements I enjoy from other hats)
1 crocheted throw (present for sister and brother-in-law -- the source of my near-crippled finger joints =P)
1 granny square crocheted stocking (classic, square toes and all)
1 knit tea cozy (in a pattern I created! Woo! An original made the cut!)
I wish I had pictures of them all to post! I really should get on that... I was so pleased with the turn-out though.
I gave my hands a short break and am starting on my mom's birthday gifts. I've already had to rip out and backtrack, so I'm thinking it'll be a pretty good one. =P Happy New Year, everyone!

I seem to have gone crazy.
I managed to graduate on time in May, thanks be to God, find 2 jobs, one in my field of specialty, and get engaged. All within the last time I posted! I believe my tardiness is excused. =)
I also took on hand-made Christmas gifts for my entire family again this year. I started this in college when funds were quite limited (and even the really really good yarn is only about 7 dollars). But I decided that this will be my last year for it, since next year my husband and I will be gifting.
Husband. Wow.
So, instead of Christmas, I'll take on birthdays. Much better. I will gladly share my gifts, patterns, and other blogs when these gifts are given! Not that anyone in my family is yet following my blog, but we must be thorough. Just in case ;)
Merry Christmas to you all, share a lovely cup of tea and some knitted coasters with the one who keeps you warm!

The Auntie Hat
We all have one.
Literally, there's one for every member of my family and then some. =)
It's a great, simple hat that can be unisex or customized!
This was hand-written to me from my Auntie for my niece, so the pattern is for a baby, but she included alterations for adults as well.
Cast on 69 stitches (for larger hat, add 4 (73), for smaller, subtract 4 (65))
size 10 needles
Knit 3, purl 1, across the row, knitting the last stitch every row.
Repeat until length - 9 inches
To decrease the top of hat, knit 2 stitches together across the row. Purl the next row. Continue these two rows until you have 6 or 8 stitches left.
Thread on long piece of yarn to be able to sew hat together. Do not cut yarn before threading stitches on. (thread yarn through remaining stitches, tie off. Sew down joining ends to finish hat.)
Make a pom-pom for top. Turn up bottom to cuff.
(she also says to add or decrease as much as you want to make it the right size. Here would be where a guage is helpful, but I never do them myself =P)
There you have it, in her own words! Embelish and customize till your heart's content!

Auntie's Knits
It's my first post! Excitement!
I had a dear aunt (GREAT aunt, actually!) who made amazing knit and crochet EVERYTHING for us. This woman was Ms. Crafty. We're talking rugs, blankets, afghans, baby clothes, potholders, cable sweaters, so much more. She did it all.
When I was 13, she was awesome enough to teach me how to knit. Just the basics, purling, knitting, ect. When she passed away several years ago, I inherited her needle collection, which is so special to me. Turns out she tried to teach a few cousins to knit, too, and I was the only one who caught on to it. And I LOVE it!
Last year, I embraced my poor-college-kid self and knit/crochet ALL my Christmas presents. 4 siblings, 3 in-laws, 2 parents, 1 niece. PHEW! What a lesson in perseverence!
So, now, I am excited to pass on some awesome Auntie (and Bianca) original patterns, as well as any that I pick up that would be equally awesome to share. Enjoy, my fellow knitters, enjoy! =)
